Aiello’s vision puts the festival on the Ulster County Fairgrounds, which is proximate to the New York State Thruway, to avoid snarled traffic. There would be vendors set up and miniature farmer’s markets, featuring crops from many surrounding municipalities, and attendees could roam to the local orchards to “pick their own,” he said. A young Apple Queen would be named, as well as a Johnny Appleseed counterpart, each would receive college scholarships to local institutions of learning. Aiello said he walked into a room somewhere with a poster that had apples on it and a light went off over his head. Aiello said, “that’s how it happens with me.” Both Aiello and Zimet predicted a festival could be arranged as early as fall 2008

“You know, sometimes people come with things and you say, “Where has this been all these years.” “I told Bob it was very interesting.” Legislator Susan Zimet, Chairperson of the Ulster County Tourism Committee…..ULSTER COUNTY PRESS, MAY 2,2007
